Cafe Rio Mexican Grill opened its first Central Florida restaurant Wednesday in Winter Park.

The St. George, Utah-based Mexican cuisine chain is at the Winter Park Square shopping center at Orlando Avenue and Lee Road. It’s the same center anchored by Whole Foods and Nordstrom Rack.
The fast-casual restaurant offers a take on Mexican slightly different than the Tex-Mex style dishes at places such as Chuy’s. The company said the food is traditional to the Rio Grande region of northern Mexico, New Mexico and Southern Texas.
Some of Cafe Rio’s signature dishes include salads topped with sweet pulled pork and fat burritos drenched in red or green sauce. It also has enchiladas, tacos, nachos and desserts. Cafe Rio also makes fresh corn and flour tortillas for its dishes.
Most entree dishes cost about $9.
It’s also the company’s first location in Florida.
Cafe Rio is one -half of a street-side 4,600-square-foot building that includes a Habit Burger location planned to open this fall.
Cafe Rio has more than 100 restaurants in 11 states.
Winter Park Square builder UP Development still has space at the shopping center and said more tenants will be announced in the coming months.
