The owner of the mall is planning a major remodeling and part of that plan is to add a new on-site hotel.
Locals say the mall is overdue for a revamp.
“It definitely needs some new stores and restaurants and stuff,” Mark Anderson said.
“I don’t like the type of stores that they have,” Adriana Ruiz said.
The mall was recently purchased earlier this year by UP Development — a company that just announced it’s putting a hotel on the property.
The developer released a drawing of what the 160-room will look like. They say the eco-friendly hotel will be called Element, a branch of Westin Hotels.
The hotel will be built between Panera Bread and Macy’s.
John Crossman, whose real estate company used to handle leasing for the mall, says the hotel will serve the higher end clientele in the area.
“Who uses the executive airport that’s right there? That tends to be a higher-end clientele. A lot of people fly in for meetings are here for a day or so, so it’s kind of perfect,” Crossman said.
Crossman said with a trendy new hotel as an anchor, new stores and restaurants could also be on the way.
